What does Apple’s new self service repair program mean for you?

Apple has announced a brand new self service repair program. You can get genuine Apple parts and repair your own device. The program begins in early 2022 and focuses on the most commonly serviced modules which includes displays cameras and batteries. Additional repair options will be added later in the year.

This program will be available first for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models. It will then be followed by Mac computers running with an apples M1 chip. This program is intended for technicians who are experienced in electronics repair. Most customers would still need to visit professional repair providers.

Pros:

Anybody with a valid Apple serial number will be allowed to buy parts
Genuine parts that were once only made available to repair shops are now available for individual consumers
Genuine parts are of the highest quality when it comes to replacing anything on your Apple device
Apple will provide DIY repair manuals for iPhones

Cons:

Your Apple warranty will be void it once you perform a repair
Apple will not verify the applicants technical know-how on the product repair.
There won’t be a customer service number in case a mistake happens
Apples parts will cost the same to individuals as they already are to repair shops and their parts are already very expensive
Having your device repaired through Apple will be significantly more expensive than having it repaired through a local third party repair shop

What we can do:

if you decide to buy parts from Apple we will gladly install them for you and just charge you for labor
If you decide to take on the repair yourself and midway through abandon the project we will gladly be here to help you finish this project
If their price for parts is out of your budget we will gladly install more economical aftermarket parts
We can also send one of our qualified technicians to your house to perform the repair right from their car

How we directly impacted this program:

iTravel2U signed the right to repair act which was a fight for many years by electronics repair shops all over the country to have easier access to genuine Apple parts
This repair program is just the beginning step in the right direction for repair shops and individuals. We hope to see more changes in the near future

What we don’t yet know?

Will Apple parts become more expensive or will they become cheaper
Will genuine parts be added for older Apple devices
